The first 510k with plasma spraying applied to PEEK.
PEEK is highly biocompatible and an inert biomaterial; however, concerns have been raised about the inertness of PEEK and its low fixation to bone. By functionalizing the surface of PEEK through plasma spraying and coating it with bone-conductive materials (such as hydroxyapatite and titanium), it has become possible to achieve direct osseointegration with the coated devices.
